| mïka: Artistic Director & Founder |
POD Theatre was founded in 2005 by artistic director and composer mïka as the result of a daring collaboration with l’Opéra de Montréal (OdM) and the Society of Technological Arts (SAT). mïka’s creative vision, combined with the OdM’s lyrical tradition and the technological innovation of SAT, was a unique theatrical occurrence which made an impression in Montreal’s electronic music scene. The reception of this collaboration by sold out audiences, reaffirmed POD Theatre’s dramatic electronic signature that is at the crossroads of many genres. POD Threatre productions are a series of compelling tales which are built on intricate mosaics of past and current techniques in music, theatre, visuals and dance, with electronic music at the center of the dramatic context. Each creation surprises and captures audience’s imagination by maintaining a delicate balance between an irreverent pop discourse with an obsession for the odd and unexpected.
In its few years of activity, POD Theatre has collaborated with an impressive array of well-established institutions such as, TOHU, Urbania magazine, The Montréal Planetarium, Les Journées de la Culture, Diverscité, Le Musée Juste pour Rire, The Montreal Casino and most recently with the Black & Blue Festival.
Our mission
POD Theatre’s main focus is telling compelling and original tales which invites audiences to broaden their understanding of society and the role they play as active members within it. Through the use of intricate metaphors, POD Theatre will often place uncommon, yet touching characters on life quests to either transcend their current situation or achieve greatness.
POD Theatre’s first mission to give a voice to individuals who dare to live and think outside of the box and to go against the norm.

POD Signature
From the beginning, POD Theatre established a strong and colourful signature to each performance it presented. Its shows are best described as “incursions into somewhat dark and satirical worlds that exist through the looking glass of our pop culture.” POD Theatre’s presentations manifest themselves as visual and musical poems built around simple fundamental themes such as life and death, freedom of thought, childhood and innocence, sensuality, isolation and love. Technology plays a key role in the dramatic unfolding of the stories being told. POD Theatre takes pride in reuniting diverse artistic disciplines within several strong concepts, bridging the gaps between genres and existing within a creative space where there are no artistic taboos.
